My introduction to fish and in particular 'fishes of Sahul' was
through my workmate and friend Barry Meiklejohn. I was taken by the
magnificent displays of the fish and in particular the whole concept of
ANGFA.
At present I have only one tank with Rainbows, those being
M.macculochi
(etty bay) however, now with regained enthusiasm, plans are under way for a
series
of half dozen tanks or so. I have been a member of ANGFA for a little over
a year now and earlier in the year was an RML subscriber, but not a
contributor. Unfortunately, building a new house and the associated
Landscaping kept me
away from things such as the RML and ashamed as I am to say it, most of my
time
was spent deleting unread messages that I didn't have time to read!!!
A recent ANGFA meeting and a subsequent observation of the 'antics'
of my
fish at 1.00am in the morning has reminded me of the reasons that I became
involved in this hobby.... Also, I have just read Bruce Hanson's e-mail '
food for thought' and
I have similar exasperated feelings in regard to the human impact on the
globe.
But, perhaps all is not lost, with groups such as RML, ANGA and the many
other
worldwide groups with similar doctrines, regardless of what they collect.
Just quickly, my background is basically in Aviation, with a brief
foray into
Horticulture , University Science studies and Public Service, before I
retreated back into my Aviation 'shell'. As a result my interests revolve
around not only the fish
keeping aspect, but also learning about the overall habitats and
conservation of such
habitats.
Although relatively inexperienced in things piscatorial, I hope that
I can
contribute a little and in particular, be part of the overall concept that
groups such as this support.
