It'll never happen, but that's what I'd like to see. The reality is that
"Blushing Incisus," "Red Boesemani" and farm-raised, mass-produced bows of
inferior quality will continue to be sold because most hobbyists don't care
*that* much... even in stores that try to educate them, tho there it is at
least a lower % who don't care what they get.
Just like it works for the retail customer, the retail store buying fish
from these wholesalers and importers has a huge amount of "say" in what
those folks carry... money talks. If the stores won't buy it, the wholesaler
won't get it again, guaranteed! Unfortunately, tho many of the retail
customers are educatable when it comes to quality rainbows, most shop owners
really only care about the bottom line. They didn't get into the business
for a true love of fish, but to make money from their hobby, and profit wins
out over integrity when it comes to the quality of fish they care about
selling. These people will never change unless their customers demand it,
but who will teach the customers? The shop owner sure won't, so the cycle
continues.
Hybrids can be interesting, and they do have their place, but with the
literally hunders of species of fish created by Mother Nature herself that
we can enjoy -- with more yet to be discovered -- I personally don't see the
need to go "making" more types by creating hybrids.
OK. Off of my soap box now. ;-)
