Definitely an 'australis' type fish. At a guess it is from the South
Alligator so would now be "Melanotaenia solata" if Jerry is right?
(Drysdales are totally different than the one shown - body shape as well as
colour). Also, Eight-line rainbowfish is the usual trade name used in the
US for M. s. australis.

I had a fish almost identical as that and I'm sure it came from the South
Alligator River.

I wonder how many australis are around now that have been mixed with other
river varieties. I guess in the future we'll find that they are all
different species - certainly some are very very different from each other?
