<<I never had much luck with APR with werneri. If I'm pulling a mop I
find putting it in a tank with of green water works great.>>

Green water/infusoria has always been the best and most natural food - it
supplies a variety of different organisms and therefor is less likely to
result in nutritional deficits than continuously supplying only APR or
other limited diets no matter how scientifically designed or approved by
aquaculture experts.

<< Lately I"ve
been raisng them in tanks loaded with rikkia. The young fry seem to
find enough food grazing off the plants>>

This is the sort of info that makes this list a great idea - sharing
ideas/communication is what it is all about.

.<< A recent experiement with a
green water tank at 90 degrees F, resulted in all the fry missing a
significant amount of finage.>>

There may be other factors involved besides temp.

<<I'm beginning to wonder if rikkia makes a better spawning medium than
java moss. It stays at the surface (with the hatched fry) and provides
a natural source of micro food.>>

Originally Barry Crockford in Melbourne, who was responsible for the
introduction of many of our favourite Rainbow fishes to the hobby, used to
find his best resilts came from raising small numbers in large well-planted
aquariums.
