Hiya Ted

As the tris and splendidas both lay numerous eggs, I don't bother with
the tray method. I don't have all that great of luck w/ trays anyway, due
to the small amount of water in the darn things (it can go bad quickly if
an egg goes bad) and the delicate nature of the newly hatched fry. I
haven't found them to transfer well. I know lots of the others will call
me on this one, but trays just don't work all that well for me.

Whenever possible, I just directly transfer egg-laden mops into the
rearing tank(s). For me, this works great, and then you don't have to
worry about fry transfer problems. Like I said, both of the species you
mentioned lay a lot of eggs, so a well-conditioned mature pair of fish
should give you more than enough eggs in a few days -- a group spawn will
yield this even faster. Then, just switch the mops for fresh ones and
you'll get even more in no time. Gotta love a fish that makes life that
easy! :-)

As for exact counts per day, I don't know, but I'm sure it's on the high
side. I'll leave that for the "Big Guns" on the list. Hope this helps.
