Ted,
I set new cultures up with equal parts of cheap cider vinegar and water with
a 50 mm cube of apple in a 1 quart jar. I add a cube of sugar, about 1
level teaspoon each month. I presumed that the creatures ate sugar. My
cultures have been going for years. You can't seem to kill them unless you
let them get above 65 degrees F.

I keep micro worm cultures as well for bottom feeding fish, the vinegars
eels stay near the top of the water column when fed, which makes them better
for 'bows.

I've heard that vinegar eels and microworms are actually the same species.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
