I distinctly remember a guy in Indiana that breed lots of very difficult
killies (especially annuals) was working with cyanodorsalis and he incubated
the eggs on damp peat moss and watched them very carefully until there was
definite formation of the fish in the egg before he put the eggs in water. He
picked eggs out of mops and out of the peat that he kept in the tanks. He
grew up small numbers of fish, but with all of that effort you wouldn't
imagine that he would grow large quantities. He also grew the fish in Indiana
tap water is very hard and very alkaline. I had thought he was crazy for
doing this, but he said it worked well for him. But maybe he knew more than I
thought he did.
