Hi Chad,
I keep P. furcatus and P. connieae breeders in seprate 20 gallon
tanks. Water tends to be 7.6-7.8, KH 160-180, hardness about 180-200 ppm
Ca++. I don't have much P. connieae, I suspect they are seasonal and
perhaps affected by daylength (more later)

I am phasing out my P. gertrudae because they were from a generic
population. I figure if I am going to keep fish I should keep good ones
that are well characterized. They were kept in much the same water , but
with an addition of Tetra's Black Water Extract. It didn't change the pH,
just added tanic (and other organic) acids. They were really picky about
eating. I had them in a ten gallon tank.

I have two populations of P. signifer. A generic and the Ross River
population. The generic population was maintained in the same water as the
rest until recently. Now they share a tank with some Tangynician Pearl
Killiefish (pH about 8+, hardness 200 + ppm Ca++). The ross Rivers (RR)
breeders are in a 10 gallon tank (I need to move them to a bigger tank
soon, but my wife won't let me buy one), water conditions are hard to say
in terms of pH and KH as their water is about 25% sea water. They were
originally in 50% sea water. These gi=uys seem to like higher temps (80+ F)
my temperatures (air) fluctuate at about 65-85F over the year. I do not
heat my tanks. All are, save one, are outside on my back porch.

Yes I do know Paul. I see him at least once every month at the Honolulu
Aquarium Society's monthly meetings. (See my sig for URL and has a link to
his pages)
