Hi all,
>As current President of ANGFA (ACT) I asked the members of the ACT group if
>they were interested in bidding for the 1999 ANGFA Convention.
>However, instead of holding it in Canberra, I put forward the idea of
>holding the convention in DARWIN, Northern Territory.
In response to Andys proposal, I suggest the following should be considered...
First and foremost ANGFA (ACT) was setup for the members of the ACT. I do
not think they will generally benefit from a Convention being held several
thousand kilometres away. (However it *is* recognised that we all benefit
from the Coventions in one way or another).
>The projected time would be April 1999, which would only be six months after
>the Queensland Convention I presume.
As Roy (I think) pointed out, two Conventions in a 6 month period? Even
with cheap air- fares and accomodation this could well prove beyond
financial means...I would hate to have to choose which Convention I could
attend, ie either QLD or the NT! Then we have the added problem of annual
leave. I believe some members out there have their leave allocated in one
block, and cannot split it up over two or more periods.
>My reasons for this timing, is that cheap air-fares and accommodation deals
>can be found at this time, and Dave Wilson our NT connection advises that it
>is a great time due to the fact that there is still plenty of water around
>for collecting fish...
The collecting of fish is mighty tempting however, I understand Darwin has a
decent Aquarium Society as well as largish aquatic/pet shops. Please to be
remembering :-)
that the ACT got ANGFA off the ground with only 5 interested persons. So
therfor I would hope that Darwin could take the bit by the hand and consider
forming their own group. This I think is not as impossible as we have been
led to believe...
>The conventions have gone from strength to strength, but I would like to
>organise this in Darwin so that we can collect/view these fish in their
>natural habitats. Also if Heiko attends, he can prove to us that crocodiles
>do not attack man/woman. Everybody bring video cameras? :>}
Ahh yes, but we can *never* be assured of Heiko's attendance no matter what
the destination. Interesting concept that, of Heiko swimming with crocs just
to prove a point we know only too well ;) I'm sure QLD could organise
collecting/viewing trips in their part of the world!
>I think that the timing may be more beneficial to our overseas guests, but I
>am not 100% sure..;)
Granted I have heard this comment more than once, but will they come?????
>I realise that there will be a lot of logistical problems - me being located
>5000 kilometres from Darwin, but I am confident that one can be organised
>successfully.
Go for it Andy! I will be watching :-) :-) Note well - *Not
assisting*........
>I have advised the members of ANGFA ACT that I am listing this suggestion on
>the RML, and ask for comments from you guys/gals as to whether you think it
>is a good idea or not - any comments very welcome, but I need them by 24th
>February 1997, so that I can collate the comments and advise the ACT members
>before a formal bid for the convention will perhaps be submitted to ANGFA
>National.
>What do you all think.
Well, I think Darwin and the NT would be worth attending but *not*
organising...If any body should consider organising a Convention in the NT
apart from Darwinians it should then be ANGFA National!!!!! How about it
Doc? You've already stated you would like to attend.
The logistics would be enormous and the finances of ANGFA (ACT) could well
be strained. Who would receive the profit or supply the deficit if it did or
didn't work?
I have worked too hard for ANGFA in the ACT to see our funds gambled in this
fashion.
Finally let me repeat - I think ANGFA National would be in a far better
position to attempt this project.
Oh yes, it just occured thet there could be a constitional problem for the
year 2,000 ?
ie the AGM,s timing...
Cheers
Alan Ford (Vice President ANGFA (ACT))
