Actually, if you have access to a copy of it, in the book Enjoying Cichlids,
by Ad Konings, there is a recipie for a shrimp and pea food for African Rift
Lake cichlids that I always thought could be a good starter to create a
recipie for Rainbowfish. Many bows like a lot of greens in their food, same
as that recipie calls for. Other good "greens" would be broccoli, many of
the cooking greens (go easy on the spinach tho), carrots (yeah, I know,
orange not green), and zucchini. I'm sure there are others.

I just made up some food using cocktail shrimps, krill powder, Cyclop-Eze
powder, ground up high protein pelleted food, spirulina powder, peas,
carrots and zucchini. Need to dink with it more tho, as I didn't get it
"gelatine-ey" enough for my preference. Basically, it was made with what I
had at hand. I don't think there is one "best" formula. Better to use some
different stuff each time to give variety to the overall diet. I only make a
small batch at any one time, so I have ample opportunity to do different
things.

Honestly, since my bows feed more at the surface, I rarely give them the
frozen mix foods I make. Too messy. They instead get a bunch of other stuff
that is more at the surface or live and swimming.
