As recently promised I have had a word with the importers of those illegal
rainbows that we have had so much discussion about. I previously stated
that 4 lots of eggs found their way into the country and were hatched by
certain guys in the ACT.
The 4 fish are.
1. M. arfakensis.
(These have proved difficult to maintain and only a few young remain.)
2. M. praecox.
3. Chilerathina pricei.
(They are looking good and have been referred to as the Chameleon fish.)
4. Glossolepis sp.
(The red eyed Glossolepis thought [by some] to be a colour variation of M.
multisquamatus.) Indeed Dr. G. R. Allen has stated that this fish *is* a
multisquamatus. However the smuggler (for use of a better word) and an
accomplished breeder of some 40 plus years, dispute these statements and are
convinced that these fish are in fact a new species of Glossolepis.
Now this is an argument that I wish to stay out of at least for the moment.
Yesterday I was lucky enough to be given a trio of the Glossolepis in
question and in due course and after much studying of the fish will come to
my own conclusion.
BTW the condition that I was given the fish under: I must immediately breed
them! What else would I do wiv em...My names not Roy <g>
Oh yes, Roy, I have a witness or two to the fact that I did not lean on the
owners of these fish. Just in case I get accused of throwing my
considerable weight around :-)
Cheers
Alan
