FYI, here's an article about the fairly well-hidden
effects of an american company's mining in Irian
Jaya/Papua. freeport operates some of the world's
largest mines in some of the world's richest and
(until then) pristine ecosystems. just imagine what
the region might have looked like before it was turned
into a desert.
