Which I think is caused by the micro-algae Haematococcus pluvialis or
something similar. The red colour is due to the pigment astaxanthin
accumulated within their cells to protect them from ultra violet light.

One day we should go over there Bruce and take some water samples for a lab
test to see if it proves my theory correct :-)
