For the last two weeks I was feeding these breeders 2 -3 times a day with
frozen bloodworm, freeze dried shrimp and flake food. I was only getting
about 3-4 eggs per day from the two females. Last weekend I did a large
water change (about 40%) and started feeding them live adult brine shrimp up
to 3 times a day for 3 days in a row.
The water change and the live food must have stimulated an increase in their
hormones, because I started to collect about 40 eggs each day for the last
three days !!! The eggs were a light yellow colour (I think Adrian Tappin
posted a similar comment earlier on this month). The fertility rate was
also much higher ie. I was getting a lot less white eggs.
The above seemed to work miracles for Praecox, whereas when I was feeding my
Goyder River Trifasciata trio the bloodworm, shrimp and flake diet, I was
still getting good results. I guess you have to try many different things
to get good results with different fish.
My 2 cents worth.
