Hi Rhonda,

Sorry to hear about all this bad luck, I hope it will get better soon.

One thing, though. You wrote that you put Aquasafe in your tanks, and one hour later some medication against the Ick. As far as I know, one should wait at least 24 hours after having put Aquasafe in the tank before starting to use any medication, because before that time, the Aquasafe will effectively remove the medication from the water!! At least that is what is written on the usage notice on the German version. You might need to stop doing that if you want the meds to be fully effective!

Cheers

Christophe

That must be what's wrong with me. It's been like this for the last 6
weeks. It all started at our local Cactus Killi Cook-out. I was trying
to nicely drive some of the out of town folks around on the fishroom
tour and almost ran into another car, which was also not intentional and
very embarrassing. Fortunately I didn't hit the other car, but we all
got our hearts pumping. Then I should have brought my dog in to the vet
right away when he got hurt but he's such a whimp I thought I'd wait and
his foot got infected, which has turned out to be a very expensive
error. I bought some otos at Wal-Mart and gave a tank ick which killed
all the fish, except the otos. That was bad enough but it spread to the
tank below it which had some very rare fish in it. This has been a total
nightmare.

I started treating the first tank with some malachite green. The fish
kept getting worse. I took them all out into bare tanks, and tried 24
hour new tank changes. But they all died. When the second tank got hit,
which has some Xenoophorus "Illescas". I immediately took them out of
the tank and started doing 24 hour complete tank changes it started
clearing up but then got worse. I've kept upping the anti and I think
I'm finally getting them through. I've lost several but have 3 adult
males, 2 females and 7 fry that seem to be almost ready to recover. I
have them in several 1 gallon bowls. I'm doing several complete bowl
changes a day, rotating 4. Bleaching them for at least an hour in
between changes, a heavy dose of aqua-safe, which is supposed to help
restore slime, which they were loosing, and a double dose of quick cure
which has both malachite green and formalin. 2 days ago I was sure I was
going to loose all the adults but they look a lot better now, with much
fewer spots and no large chunks of slime hanging off. The fry never had
it as bad, but only 2 have any spots now, and they have 1 and 3 each.

Wylie is still sick and I still haven't slept so if I ramble on please
forgive me. I thought after my strange posts earlier today I should at
least talk of something fishy. I was rather curious what others
experiences with ick have been. I get it so rarely and it's usually
totally fatal. It's been about 6 years or so since it happened last.
Perhaps I should be detained so I can't hurt anything else. Shouldn't
insane people be given a nice quiet room somewhere? :)

Rhonda
