Sorry you couldn't make it. It was a fantastic weekend. People I haven't seen in years so that was nice. Learning about the Limias in the islands plus a few new ones that are really cool! Rusty had 8-9 pictures of Monties that he caught at the same location that were very different looking. This fish is extremely variable, which is something that those of us that keep it have found out. The old guard from the ALA was worried about moving it out of either Ohio or MI and they found out that this convention was really more sucessful than any other. More fish bowled than ever before. I don't know if it was a bigger number for attendance though as this was the first one that I've attended. Auction prices held up pretty nicely. An OLD friend Pat Hartmann took best wild livebearer (X. birchmanni) which was fantastic. He also took the Goodeid best too, I forget which one. In the manmade varieties a silver molly won. I really hate silver mollys ;-) but a lot of the fancy swords
did have issues. I realize now that the ALA has a lot more class than the other "initial" clubs. They had a wine tasting :-) on Saturday evening. Ok, translation a lot of people arrived at the dinner already a tad tipsy.
BTW for all the midwesterners - Joe Fleckenstein gives probably one of the best live food talks that I've heard in a long time. Good practical advice with hands on cultures. The auction afterwards on his culture materials netted $100 for the club too so people were eager to try out his suggestions. He'll also be speaking at MASI's spring show, April 29, 30th May 1st.
New fish for my fishroom. Scored some Neohet. elegans (~ 3/4 inche) for photography as there really aren't any good pics of these fish out there. Also have some Xiph. mayae coming and eventually some X. birchmanni, another photography challenge. It's going to be in New Jersey next year so start saving your $ for a plane ticket. Oh, and Scott Buckel, for all on the other side of the pond. He didn't make his flight back to Denver because they had a foot of snow there. It was ~ 80 degrees in Indy!
