Sorry I can't help too much with specific collecting site info as I
personally haven't collected down on the coast.
Seeing the RML is a public forum I just thought it would be timely to
mention to anybody wishing to collect from the wild to check your government
legislation before dipping your nets.
Specifically in Queensland it's illegal to collect Nannoperca oxleyana
(Oxleys pygmy perch) as it is classified as vulnerable under Dept. of
Environment and Heritage legistation. Other attractive fish we are not
allowed to collect from the wild are
Psuedomugil mellis - honey blue-eye
Kuhlia rupestris - jungle perch ?
There are a few more that I can't remember off the top of my head. Also in
many cases size limits, bag limits and open seasons that apply to anglers
also apply to us hobbyist aquarists as well.
