The answer is yes, but there needs to be discussion on how this involvement
can take place. As a possible model there are a number of private
individuals participating in zoo-based avian captive breeding programs. I
apologize for the brevity, but I leave tomorrow for the American Zoo and
Aquarium Association Annual (AZA) meeting and don't have time to write a
longer response.
I hope some else picks up on this topic (I won't be back until October). The
best first step may be to contact the AZA Freshwater Fishes and Marine Fishes
Advisory Group Chairs. I'm fairly certain at least one of them is on this
group - but they might be leaving for the conference today or tomorrow also
and so may not have time to respond for a while.
