NAFTA ENVIRONMENT COMMISSION WANTS AIR QUALITY PROGRAM MANAGER
The Commission on Environmental Cooperation (CEC) working on NAFTA issues is
looking for candidates for the position of Program Manager for North
American Cooperation on Air Quality Issues — long-range transport of air
pollution and atmospheric change, including climate change. The work will
involve collaboration with government experts and officials in Canada,
Mexico, and the United States. Requirements include an advanced degree in an
area related to air quality issues, plus at least seven (7) years of project
management experience, preferably in areas related to the management of air
quality issues. A comprehensive interdisciplinary understanding of
scientific, technical and policy aspects of air issues is necessary.
Excellent English writing and presentation skills are essential. An ability

of Director General of the Institute for Marine Biosciences (IMB), based in
Halifax, Nova Scotia. The institute undertakes leading edge research related
to aquaculture and marine bioproducts. Staff of 78 with an annual budget of

professor level. The applicant should have a Ph.D. in Economics, Resource
Economics, Agricultural Economics or a closely related field; experience
working on policy, business, and economic issues related to biodiversity and
biotechnology; and a strong interest in the interface between the
environment, biotechnology and the pharmaceutical and food industries.
Responsibilities include developing a nationally recognized research program
on policies, regulations and government investments that stimulate the use
of biodiversity and biotechnology in the food and pharmaceutical industries
and policies which contribute to sustaining biodiversity. Candidates should

FLORIDA WANTS CHEMICALS EXPOSURE INVESTIGATOR
The Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Toxicology is
seeking an, Exposure Investigation Coordinator, to coordinate exposure
investigations. This individual will coordinating investigations to
estimate human exposure to hazardous chemicals in communities near Florida's
hazardous waste sites. These investigations include: 1) bio-medical testing
of blood, hair, and urine samples for markers of recent exposure to
hazardous chemicals, 2) environmental testing of soil, water, and air for
hazardous chemicals, and 3) exposure-dose reconstruction to estimate levels
of hazardous chemicals people may have been exposed to in the past. Salary:
$36,000 per year, plus benefits. The successful candidate should have a
bachelor's degree in one of the biological or physical sciences and three
years experience in public health/medicine or environmental
protection/regulation; or a master's degree in one of the biological or

U.S. OFFERS AAAS FELLOWSHIPS
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) invites
applications for one-year public policy fellowships, which bring scientists
and engineers to Washington, DC, to work in Congress, the U.S. Department of
State, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department
of Defense, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the RAND Critical
Technologies Institute. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must have a
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral level degree at the time of application
(January 1998) from any physical, biological, or social science or any field
of engineering. Persons with a master's degree in engineering and at least
three years of post-degree professional experience may also apply. Federal

The University of Rhode Island is seeking to hire a director to its Coastal
Institute. The Institute will bring natural and social sciences to bear on
critical science and public policy issues in the coastal and marine
