This is off-topic, but since you brought it up ....

The statement "there is plenty of production out there" is dead
wrong. As an active birdwatcher who tries to keep up
with bird conservation issues, I can tell you there is
good scientific documentation of a precipitous decline
in migratory birds, mostly due to habitat loss in both
wintering and breeding grounds. The Migratory Bird
Act is helping to keep what little that remains from
going extinct. But it won't be enough.

Were you referring to resident birds like cardinals,
titmouse, and some finches? That's a slightly different
issue, but I would not consider them to be abundant
and would prefer to see them protected.
