Many aquarists are good breeders. However, in order to make a
difference in conservation, they must be organized, sufficiently
motivated and well funded so that they will be able to do a
conservation program. I guess that what all it takes.

Its true that many aquarists are interested in fishes from other
countries and rarely go to the field. But, again this takes a great
deal of developing interest. We in the Philippines, have gone great
lengths to interest aquarists in our native fishes and aquarium
plants. Most of these are endangered or their status is unknown.

Just don't do away with the aquarist sector. Academe, government,
the public aquaria can get their act together, if they try.
