Adrian, I hope you did not interpret my comments as a slight against the
importance of having captive populations, or of the role of private
aquarists.

As for the blue-eye, you may have to ask Peter for an update on Queensland
political history. Start with the bizarre events leading up to designation
of the Australian rainforest as a World Heritage area.

But it will be a sad day when all our energies are devoted to the
fatalistic vision of a captive past, and there is nothing left to safeguard
a future place in the wild for the inhabitants of our little mechanical
Kandors.
