Although the report played up the GM aspects of the catfish
danger, it seems to me that the real danger is raising non-local
fish of any type. Every danger raised about the GM catfish
would have been equally true if he had been growing tilapita,
Gambusia, or Nile perch. (Three fish which really have caused
ecological disasters, as opposed to GM fish, which -- so far -- never
have.) I can see several reasons why GM fish are actually safer
for the environment than non-GMed foriegn species, when farm
raised.
