Dear Premier and Honourable Ministers,

RE: Fate of the B.C. Fish Farm Development Moratorium

I understand that Cabinet will be making its decision in the next week
regarding the moratorium on new salmon farms.

I am writing to urge you to maintain the moratorium, and to ensure that all
existing netcage salmon farms are converted to safe, closed containment
systems as quickly as possible.

A great deal of important new information from around the world on the
detrimental impacts of salmon farming has come to light since the Salmon
Aquaculture Review was completed. This information has only served to
underscore the dangers of netcage salmon farming to wild salmon and the rest
of the marine ecosystem, and the damage that expansion of the industry would
almost certainly cause to other, more sustainable coastal industries such as
shellfish culture, eco-tourism and wild fisheries.

Please, for the sake of BC's wild salmon, marine environment and our coastal
communities, keep the moratorium and institute a strictly enforced schedule
for conversion of existing netcages to safe, closed containment systems.
Thank you.

Sincerely,
